Spencer took her hand and quickly pulled her off the dance floor into a dark corner. He drew her in close to his body. He looked over his shoulder and saw her date. He looked around for Miranda for a minute, and then a Cheshire grin came across his face when he met his new dance partner, this time a brunette.
“Sorry, honey, but I don't think he's missing you too much.” She looked around Spencer to see Darrell dancing with his new partner, then back at him.
She shook her head. “Still, I don't think I should lie to him and ditch him.”
“What if you weren't lying?”
“Please explain.”
He stood straight up and looked down at her seriously. “I need you.”
Her pulse quickened. “What?”
“I'm your boss and I'm telling you I need you. That's an order.” He smiled again. “Now you're not lying.”
She stared at him, mouth opened. He leaned over and kissed her on the forehead. “I'll go have my car brought around.” He smiled and leaned down again and whispered in her ear. “I drove the Camaro.”
She snapped out of her reverie in time to watch him walk away. She blinked once then twice, trying to figure out what had just happened. Then she went to the table she'd shared with Darrell grabbed her items and maneuvered her way through the dancers until she found Darrell.
“I'm so sorry,” she said. “Something came up at work.”
